Welcome to our
Student and Tutor Spotlight!

Each quarter, we will feature an awesome Wonder Math student and tutor, with a Q&A sharing their thoughts on our interactive, confidence-building math program. Students and tutors are selected based on their enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and overall progress. This quarter, student Esther and tutor Anne are shining examples of that!

Congratulations! We’re so excited that you’re part of the Wonder Math family and by sharing your experiences, you’re helping others learn about the importance of our program. Let’s celebrate our spotlight winners this season! Stay tuned for our next spotlight.

What is Esther’s favorite part about Wonder Math?

I like learning about new things and being with my friends and teacher! I also like the stories used to learn math.

How has Wonder Math helped Esther with her math skills?

Wonder Math has helped me to understand math through games and stories. Each week we learn math skills.

As a parent, how would you describe your child’s Wonder Math experience?

Esther has excelled in math and feels confident in this area due to Wonder Math. Each week she gets to log on with friends and a fun teacher to help her continue expanding on her math foundation, giving her a head start in her classroom.

What do you love most about working with students in Wonder Math?

I love that each class at Wonder Math is made up of students from around the United States and the world. The students learn first-hand that we are more similar than different. During a class, students of different ages and abilities work together to solve puzzles and play games using the skills learned in the lesson. I love watching the class work together and form a bond.

In what ways have you witnessed Wonder Math boost the confidence of your students?

Many times, I have had students with no confidence in their ability to do math. It is my job to meet each child’s needs and figure out what is blocking the student from succeeding. Wonder Math has made it easy for me to teach a skill that is new for a student while challenging another student at the same time with more difficult problems. Students work at their individual levels. It is rewarding when I hear, “I thought this was hard, but I got it now!”

What are your best tips for avoiding the “summer slide”?

The summer slide is a real issue. There are simple ways your family can target math skills during their time off. You can pull change from your pocket and have your child count it to review money. Have your child plan a trip to a museum to review money, map reading and time management. Take turns skip counting by different amounts to review multiplication. Of course, Wonder Math is also an excellent way to keep your child’s math skills sharp throughout the summer.
